New Year’s Resolutions: Insurance Style

“New year, new me, right?” Sometimes it’s easier said than done.

New Year’s resolutions are a great way to push ourselves to do and be better, achieve personal goals, and otherwise improve our lives. Sounds easy, right? If you’re looking to spark some positive change in your life, look no further than our ‘insurance approved’ New Year’s resolutions that will help you get your 2020 off to a roaring start. (It is the twenties after all…)

Step out of your comfort zone

A New Year’s resolution that seems to be prevalent in the lives of many is stepping out of the infamous ‘comfort zone’. A great way to do that is to travel. Jet off to a country you’ve never been to before, take in the culture (and the culture shock), try new foods, meet new people, and really relish and enjoy the experience.

However, you don’t want to step too far out of your comfort zone, which is why travel insurance is so darn important. You can get coverage from Brio Insurance for a number of factors including:

  • Emergency medical insurance
  • Canada only travel plans (yes – this is important)
  • Trip cancellation insurance
  • Baggage insurance
  • All-inclusive holiday insurance
  • And so much more!

Save money

If your New Year’s resolution is to save money, look no further than your car insurance.

We get it, increases in insurance rates are frustrating. As more cars are on the road or if there are more accidents in a year, rates will end up going up to cover the costs of repairs.

Although we can’t make the overall car insurance rates go down, we put together a few tips to help you out.

Take up a hobby

Learning a new skill or taking up a hobby are great ways to pass the time and bring meaning into your life. And, as an insurance brokerage, we have a couple of ideas:

Cycle in the motorcycle

If you’re ready to take on the open road, taste freedom, and feel the wind in your hair (through your helmet, of course) you’ll want to take this hobby into consideration. Keep in mind that basic coverage for your motorcycle is a $200,000 liability and a $500 deductible for collision only. However, there are a variety of extension products that you can purchase to add additional coverage.

Care for classic cars

Vroom vroom. If you’re a natural-born collector and have ample time on your hands, consider taking on the project of restoring and maintaining classic vehicles.

With the help of our friends from Hagerty, you’ll receive ‘agreed value’, eliminate the need for expensive appraisals, and the best part, your good driving record is taken into consideration, meaning you’ll get a lower rate!

If you’re unsure of the world of classic cars, check out our blog post on classic car care and our page on Hagerty classic car insurance.

Be a healthier version of yourself

Lastly, and certainly not least, take this New Year’s resolution into consideration.  The following are a few quick tips you’ll want to take note of:

  • Exercise more regularly. Even if it’s just 1 – 2 days a week, you’ll feel much better once you start moving more.
  • Stay on top of your health and wellbeing. Whether that means booking a doctor’s appointment, teeth cleaning, focusing on your mental health, or learning more about life insurance, there are lots of things you can do to ensure peace of mind.
  • Eat healthier. That means, more fruit and veggies, less salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats, and drinking lots of water throughout the day.

Not really a New Year’s Resolution but…

 Take note of our hours!

All Brio Insurance branches will be closed on Wednesday, January 1 (gives us time to get our resolutions in check). See our regular hours here.
